The Magic of Enemas and Colonics

By Steve Prussack
Host of Raw Vegan Radio

Tonight’s blog is going to focus on the magic and glory of the enema/ colonic.  My third day of juice fasting met with discomfort for much of the day. I woke up feeling fine as far as cold symptoms go, but a low-grade headache continued into the day.  It got progressively worse, to the point where I just couldn’t work anymore.  I decided it was time to do an enema.

There are misconceptions and weird opinions with regard to enemas and colonics.  I realize this is not an easy topic, and many people just don’t want to talk about it.  We live in a society where we announce we are going to use the bathroom but never discuss what actually goes on when we are in there.  Don’t worry, I’m not going to provide pictures or grotesque descriptions.  But I think this is a topic worthy of discussion, because it is the very thing that alleviated my intense headache.  Quite frankly, enemas are magic.  The enema worked much faster and efficiently then taking an Advil or Motrin.  There is no doubt that enemas (and colonics) could  heal what ails you.  Not only that, they are essential when doing a cleanse.

I admit the idea of enemas always scared me somewhat.  Like most men, the idea of a tube going inside me didn’t quite thrill me.  I thought enemas were something only geriatric patients use, when they are incontinent in a nursing home.  I think many people still feel that way.  If you are someone serious about healing and experiencing health beyond your dreams, an enema (and colonic) is a must.

So what happened after your enema?

Once I did my enema today, I wish I had done it sooner.  I am going to try a coffee enema another time during the week, but this time it was just a straight-up enema with filtered water.  It was more than enough to alleviate my symptoms and rid my body of some serious waste.  What surprised me the most was how much mucous came out during my enema.  This was the kind of stuff you blow out your nose, or spit out when you are burdened with a terrible cold.  Actually, it was the very mucous that was coming out my body yesterday when I was experiencing my first healing crises on this cleanse.

When I finished my enema, not only was the headache completely gone, but I was left with a feeling of total euphoria.  Pure joy.  Happiness.  For no other reason then my body was thanking me. Do you enjoy a glass of wine when things get stressful?  Try an enema, along with a few days on nothing but juice. I have never experienced anything even close to this feeling, and I had my share of drinking back when I was a college “fraternity boy” (yes brothers of TKE—try an enema!). What a great feeling to know that you can experience a natural high, while still be grounded and clear.

I am surprised to be cleansing this much on day 3, but came to realize today that juice fasting is an accumulated effect.  I juice fasted for 23 days a few months ago, and it seems my body has picked up right where I left off!  You would think I might have to start all over again.  Instead, your body continues the work you started to begin with.  That is why I recommend quarterly juice fasts.  Four juice fasts a year are a great way to experience boundless energy, sparkling eyes, sweet breath (even when you wake up in the morning), and a trim waistline.

I have lost 10 pounds of unwanted mucous, toxins, and other debris in just 3 days. I know this is not the result for everyone. But if you try doing intermittent fasting, each juice fast will get better and better.  My eyes are starting to get brighter again too.

When we have a seasonal cold, it is actually a a build up of mucous  your body tries to get it out as quickly as possible. Next time you are suffering cold or flu symptoms, try doing a few enemas (or colonics)?  It will speed up your recovery and might even make you feel better right away!

What other ailments can enemas and colonics help with?

Studies have shown that enemas can alleviate such problems including lower backaches, indigestion, flatulence, acidity, chronic constipation, and irritable bowel syndrome. Enemas can even help address psychological disorders such as depression, anxiety, irritability and other neuroses.

I don’t recommend just any enema though.  Those Fleet enemas in the pharmacy are terrible and NOT recommended.  Here is where I found the most incredible enema kit, which included a stainless steel bucket and top-quality tubing.  You can find out all about it here:

Wow, Steve, that is a great result. I personally am surprised that on day 3 my scale doesn’t seem to bulge. I thought i had lost 2 pounds yesterday but it may have been my imagination. Is it possible not to lose weight on a juice fast? The 5 days juice fast I had done a few weeks ago had me 6 pounds lighter. It doesn’t seem to be the case this time.

I had a similar experience yesterday after taking a coffee enema. My detox symptom was rashes on my face. It wasn’t until I took a coffee enema that things improved. My mood was lifted for the rest of the day. I was very clear minded and able to study. Not only that, the rash started clearing up a couple of hours afterwards. Amazing. Enjoy your cleanse!

I am day 3, but not 100% juice. I am 99.99% raw. I haven’t managed enough time in the am to make enough juice. I felt so great yesterday. I WANT MORE/ALL DAYS GREAT. I am a little tired today. Looking forward to tomorrow, off from work, can make more than 1/2 gallon to get me through the whole day. How many ounces are you consuming with each drink, and overall for the day? I don’t need to lose an ounce, just detox. It’s hard to keep my calories up with this, which is why I’ve put it off for my five years of raw. The lines in my hands were black the first day, and still have remnants. Hands are very dry today.

Thanks for sharing and an inspiration…. Just finishing day two.
Fruit juice in the morning, large doze if green veggies during the day, and tea in the evening.
It’s amazing how much time saved without all food retuals.
loosing lb is not the goal but to reconnect… and to have spring cleaning.

Thanks for addressing the issue of enemas and colonics Steve. The information is quite valuable. Since January 2011 I did my first 7-day raw food/smoothie cleanse; in the fall of 2011 I did a 9-day raw food and juice cleanse using my new juicer. I decided then to complete a quarterly cleanse beginning in 2012. Your timing is perfect because I was slipping out of the first quarter due to unusual life events. Anyway, since jumping on board with you on this 14-day cleanse I started at a weight of 169. Day 2 I was at 165.6, missed the weigh-in the next day, I was at 160 yesterday and 159.8 today.

For me it is about feeling outstanding. The weight lose is a secondary benefit. I absolutely love noticing how great I feel. The last two days my body felt slightly chilled so I’ve layered today and feel perfectly content. This week it seems that my sense of smell is heightened. Even though I took allergy shots for years, I seem to be able to smell for the first time. Thankfully, I am in a physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual place where I am not struggling with a perceived scarcity of food. I notice how little my body really does need in the way of nourishment to fuel my body. In addition to the juices I sip warm lemon, ginger, and mint water throughout the day and continue with my regular gym work out at a gentler pace.

Last night was Karen Ranzi’s best interview yet! I met her last year in Pittsburgh when she gave a presentation at the local food co-op and she was the one who invited me to Rawpalooza (which was a great way to being 2012).
